TRIP REPORT

7/31/84

This was our third two-fer on the 1984 trip - Tabeguache and Shavano. Making these two summits would bring us to our minimum peak-bagging objective for this trip, and we would have a few days left over!
We got up fairly early and arrived at the Jennings Creek trailhead around 6:30. It was very cold and windy as we headed up a slope of burned-out forest to the treeline. From the treeline we climbed steeply to the top of a long, lumpy, curved ridge that culminated in the summit of Tabeguache. We stayed a little below this ridge on the right side to keep out of the wind, and with a little scrambling, hit the summit, which just seemed like a little lump Shavano's shoulder.

From Tabeguache, the ridge continued curving to the right and down to a saddle before rising up again to Shavano's peak.It was still very windy, so we stopped only briefly for a snack and headed down to the saddle below Shavano.
